Woman thought she'd die in remote moorland - until beloved dogs came to rescue

A runner who broke her leg on a remote moorland and was certain she was going to die, was saved by her two beloved border collies.

Pita Oates, 48, was unable to even stand after she fell on a three-mile run with her pets Buddy and Merlyn.

But, while one of the dogs stayed with her as she inched down the hill, the other ran around barking for help.

It attracted the attention of a walker, who contacted emergency services.

Pita said: “They were like a tag team, Buddy never left me, while Merlyn went for help. I couldn’t stand up, I was having to bum-shuffle all the way down.

“I would have died without a doubt – I wouldn’t have lasted the night.”

When help arrived, Pita was drifting in and out of consciousness and suffering hypothermia. She said: “It was... Storm Gareth, it was freezing and I was soaking. The winds were horrendous.”
