Woman taken to hospital in serious condition after two-car smash

A woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a crash in Tameside.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on Victoria Street, at the junction with Clarendon Road, just before 10.30am this morning (Tuesday).

Two cars collided with each other, police said.

One of the drivers - a woman aged in her 40s - was taken to hospital from the scene in a serious condition.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said her condition is 'potentially severe'.

Clarendon Road, at the junction with Commercial Brow and Victoria Street, was blocked after the incident.

It is now open as normal.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 10.30am to a report of a collision involving two cars on Victoria Street, Hyde.

"One of the drivers - a woman in her 40s - has been taken to hospital in a serious condition."

A NWAS spokesperson said: "One person was taken to hospital in a potentially severe condition.

"We received a 999 call at 10.17."
