Woman taken to hospital following two-vehicle crash on A68 in Northumberland

A woman has been taken to hospital following a collision in Northumberland.

Emergency services were called to the A68 just after 7am on Sunday morning after reports of a two-vehicle crash near the Derwent area.

The road was closed in both directions between the B6278 (Derwent) and the Healey turn off while police cleared the scene.

Two drivers were involved and assessed by paramedics at the scene, and one was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.

The road fully reopened shortly before 10am.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.09am this morning to a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

"When we arrived, both drivers were standing outside of their vehicles.

"They were checked over by paramedics and we took one woman to the RVI."
