Woman taken to hospital following major emergency response at Ayr Beach incident

Emergency services raced to an incident at Newton Shore, Ayr, tonight following reports of a person in the water.

A 59-year-old woman has since been taken to hospital after police were called around 5.15pm.

A multi-agency search operation was launched at the water with coastguard, fire, ambulance and police crews all responding to the incident.

A helicopter was also dispatched.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called around 5.15pm on Thursday, 28 January, 2021, following the report of a concern for person in the water at Newton Shore, Ayr.

"Emergency services attended and a 59-year-old woman has been taken to hospital."
