Woman taken to hospital after Westgate Road crash near MFA Bowl building

A woman was taken to hospital after a crash closed Newcastle's Westgate Road.

Two vehicles collided at the junction between Westgate Road and Mill Lane in Newcastle's West End just after 8pm on Saturday.

A hazardous area response team (HART) and an ambulance were sent to the scene as well as police officers.

A woman was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle suffering from chest pains.

The road was closed by officers for around 30 minutes while the vehicles involved in the crash were recovered.

Some passers-by stopped to watch as the emergency services worked at the collision site, close to the former MFA Bowl building.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We got the call just before 8.10pm at the junction between Westgate Road and Mill Lane to a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

"We sent the HART and an ambulance.
