Woman taken to hospital after suffering medical emergency outside Tynemouth Metro Station

A woman has been taken to hospital after suffering a medical emergency outside the Metro station in Tynemouth.

Emergency services were called after the woman became unwell on Station Terrace at just after 11.30am on Saturday.

The road was temporarily blocked as paramedics treated her at the scene before taking her to hospital in an ambulance.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Tynemouth Metro Station at 11.45am today (Saturday) to reports of a female unwell.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and transported the patient to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."

The emergency temporarily blocked bus replacement services travelling to Tynemouth Metro Station, which is operating over the weekend while part of the line is closed for upgrade works.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Metro said: "There was a medical emergency just outside of the Metro station.

"A female passenger became unwell and required medical attention so an ambulance had to be called.

"The ambulance on the road blocked the replacement buses getting in, as we have the line closure in place in that area over the weekend."
