Woman taken to hospital after stolen car smashes into apartment block

Police are investigating after a stolen car wiped out a street sign before smashing into the side of an apartment block in Hyde .

A woman was taken to hospital following the crash which happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It is understood she was travelling in the car at the time - and was left behind by two other people who ran from the scene.

Emergency services were called to Old Road (which becomes Newton Street), near the junction with Carrfield and Spring Gardens, just after midnight to reports a Ford Titanium had collided with a building.

The car - which was on false plates - had been stolen from the east Manchester area on Sunday evening.

It is not clear at this stage whether police were pursuing the Ford at the exact time of the crash, but it was logged as a 'police involved' RTC.

Old Road was closed for several hours while investigation work was carried out.

According to GMP , the woman's injuries are not serious or life-threatening.

Enquiries are ongoing, and no arrests are believed to have been made at this stage.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue confirmed crews were called to the scene.

They said: "At 12.06am on Tuesday fire engines from Hyde and Stalybridge and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton attended an RTC involving one vehicle and the side of a building at the junction of Carrfield and Newton Street.

"Crews were on scene for around 45 minutes."

The North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called to a collision involving one vehicle.

"A female patient was taken to hospital."
