Woman taken to hospital after car ploughs through Sports Direct wall

A woman was rescued by firefighters after a car ploughed into a Sports Direct building.

The woman, in her 60s, was left trapped in the vehicle following the smash at the Kingsway Retail Park in Rochdale.

Two fire engines were called to the scene.

Fire crews helped the woman out of the vehicle with the assistance of paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service.

She is believed to have managed to escape with just minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 2.50pm two fire engines, one from Rochdale and one from Ashton-under-Lyne, attended an incident at Kingsway Retail Park in Rochdale.

"A car went into a building.

"We rescued one casualty trapped in the vehicle and helped her out of it.

"It was a woman approximately 65-years-old.

"She was conscious and breathing, with minor injuries."
