Woman taken to hospital after car flips in two-vehicle crash in South Shields

A woman was taken to hospital after a car flipped when it crashed with another vehicle in South Shields.

The two cars collided close to the town hall in Westoe Road at about 6.20pm on Thursday.

One of the vehicles rolled over as a result of the crash and came to a halt on its side before someone passing the incident called the emergency services.

Police and paramedics attended and a woman was treated at the scene before she was taken to hospital.

According to a spokesman for North East Ambulance Service , the patient had been suffering from a medical condition. It is not known if she was in the vehicle that rolled over.

The spokesman said: "We received a call at 6.20pm from a passerby to a two-car road traffic collision where one car had appeared to have rolled over.

"Initial reports suggested that there were three patients but we only treated one woman for a medical condition before we took her to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

"There were no other injuries."
