Woman taken to hospital after car ends up on its side on Gateshead roundabout

A woman has been taken to hospital following a collision where a car ended up on its side.

Fortunately, the occupants of the car had a lucky escape and police say the 37-year-old was taken to hospital as a precaution as no-one was badly injured.

Emergency services were called to the roundabout between Durham Road and Sunderland Road in Gateshead shortly after 7am on Tuesday morning.

The vehicle involved had to be stabilised and recovered from the road close to the former Swallow Hotel near the town centre.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "At around 7.10am on Tuesday we received a report of a vehicle on its side at the roundabout between Durham Road and Sunderland Road.

"Emergency services attended and helped to stabilise the car.

"It is believed no-one was injured as a result of this incident but the passenger, 37-year-old woman, was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We dispatched three of our Hazardous Area Response Teams and a double-crewed ambulance and we have transported one patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
