Woman taken to hospital after car ends up in the River Trent

A woman has been taken to hospital after a car went into the River Trent.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 3.47pm on Tuesday (September 24) after a crash.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted to say a car "left the road" and ended up in the river off Hoveringham Road, Hoveringham.

"One female casualty has been taken to hospital by paramedics," the tweet added.

Fire crews from the Arnold, Newark, Highfields and Carlton stations attended.

Nottinghamshire Police said there were called to Hoveringham Road at about 4pm, following reports of a car in the Trent.

A force spokesman said: "A woman has been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

"Hoveringham Road will remain closed near Ferry Farm Park until the car has been recovered and the road has been cleared."

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call the force on 101, quoting incident 565 of September 24.
