Woman taken to hospital after being hit by car in Longbenton

A woman has been taken to hospital after being knocked down by a car in Longbenton.

Emergency services were called to Chesters Avenue in the area just before 6.30pm on Friday after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.

It is believed that Northumbria Police are investigating the collision but it is not currently known if anyone has been arrested.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.24pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Chesters Avenue in Longbenton.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and transported a female patient to hospital."

The woman's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Northumbria Police have been contacted for comment.
