Woman taken to hospital after being hit by car in Durham

A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Durham.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a pedestrian and a grey Mercedes on Sunderland Road, Gilesgate, just before midday on Monday.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary confirmed that the woman was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham with injuries that are not thought to be serious.

They said: "Police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian shortly before 12pm this afternoon.

"The collision, which occurred on Sunderland Road in Gilesgate, involved a grey Mercedes."

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.51am to a patient injured on Sunderland Road, Gilesgate.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance."
