Woman taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Bury

A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car on a busy main road.

Emergency services were called to the incident in Rochdale Old Road in Bury at about 12.30pm.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported seeing a number of police and ambulances at the scene.

The woman, who police say is in her 40s, was taken to hospital. Her injuries are said to be 'minor'.

Following the incident, the car continued to block the road, causing delays to traffic in the surrounding area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at 12.40pm to reports of a collision between a car and a woman in her 40s in Rochdale Old Road.

"The car was blocking the road."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.26pm to Rochdale Old Road to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

"We took one patient to Fairfield General Hospital."
