Woman taken to hospital after being cut free from two-vehicle crash on A19

A woman has been taken to hospital after being rescued from a collision on the A19.

Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle crash at Sheraton, County Durham, just after the A179 junction on Thursday morning.

One lane northbound was closed while fire crews and paramedics attended the incident, with motorists facing tailbacks over two miles long.

Firefighters freed a woman who was then transported to North Tees Hospital by paramedics.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A19 came into CDDFRS control at 7.15am this Thursday, 22 July.

“Crews from Peterlee and Seaham attended, Seaham left the scene shortly after arrival. One adult female was extricated by fire crews using holmatro equipment.

“The female was transported to hospital by ambulance. Fire crews left the scene at 8.05am.”

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received several calls from members of the public reporting a two-vehicle RTC on the A19 at 7am this morning.

“We dispatched a paramedic crew who treated two patients for minor injuries at the scene.

“One of the patients was then transported to North Tees Hospital.”
