Woman taken to hospital after cow on EK road causes four-car smash

A woman was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury after a cow on a road caused a four-car crash.

The incident happened late last night on the A726 near Chapelton, on the outskirts of East Kilbride, with the road subsequently closed until 2am.

One driver described how they narrowly avoided crashing.

They posted on a Facebook community page: "A few cars ended up being involved.

"A black cow on the road in the pitch dark, drivers had no chance seeing it - narrowly avoided it ourselves."

A police spokesperson said: "We were called around 11.20pm on Sunday, July 10, to a report of a crash on the A726 near Chapleton involving a cow and four cars.

“A woman, a passenger in one of the cars, was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.

“The road was closed and later re-opened around 2am.”
