Woman survives 15-metre fall from balcony

The woman landed on a ledge just above the ground floor entrance to the building.

WA police say a woman is lucky to have survived a 15-metre fall at an apartment complex in East Perth.

The 21-year-old woman attended a charity function with friends on Tuesday night and returned home about 3:30am when she went out onto her balcony on the fourth floor to smoke a cigarette.

The alarm was raised when her boyfriend and residents at the Alderney on Hay Street complex heard her screams for help.

Firefighters rescued the woman, who landed on a ledge just above the ground floor entrance to the complex after falling from the balcony.

She has been admitted to Royal Perth Hospital with head injuries, internal bleeding and broken bones including leg injuries.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said her injuries were still being assessed but her condition was listed as serious.

Police said they are treating the incident as an accident.
