Woman suffers 'very serious injuries' after falling from bridge over M60

A woman was taken to hospital with 'very serious injuries' after falling from a bridge over the M60.

Emergency services closed off both sides of the motorway after the incident at around 6am yesterday morning.

Police said a woman had fallen from a bridge between the Swinton and Pendlebury junctions.

She was taken to hospital from the scene.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service has today confirmed that she suffered 'very serious injuries'.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said yesterday: "Police were called just after 6am this morning (Monday 19 April) to a report of a woman falling from bridge over the M60 between junctions 16 and 17.

"Officers attended, and the woman was taken to hospital."

The motorway was closed for around an hour after the incident.

Police officers were spotted on the Manchester Road bridge above the M60 and the walkways across the road were cordoned off.
