Woman suffers head injuries in waltzer ride accident

A woman was left with head injuries after falling from a waltzer ride.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were dispatched shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday (July 21) after it was reported that a woman had fallen at Blackpool South Pier.

According to Lancashire Police, the accident occurred after she stood up on the waltzer causing her to be thrown over the side.

Ambulance crews attended the scene with an Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV), land ambulance, advanced paramedic and air ambulance where they treated the woman for head injuries, reported Lancs Live.

The causality was then taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.38pm yesterday evening to South Pier.

"We sent an RRV, land ambulance, advanced paramedic and air ambulance and treated a female patient with head injuries.

"We took the patient to Blackpool Victoria Hospital."

Lancashire police sent five police officers to the scene, and said it was "luckily a less serious incident" than first thought.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at around 6.50pm yesterday (Tuesday) to South Pier Promenade, Blackpool, to reports of an industrial accident.

"We attended and found a woman, aged in her 20s, had come off the waltzers ride and suffered suspected head and neck injuries.

"She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"The incident is now being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with assistance from police."
