A woman has suffered severe facial injuries after a dog attack in south London.
The unidentified woman, believed to be in her thirties, was airlifted to hospital after police were called to Wilmount Street, Woolwich, around 4.30pm on Friday.
She is now in a “serious but stable” condition, a Scotland Yard spokesperson confirmed.
"The dog has been seized by officers and taken to a local police station kennel," they added. The breed of the dog is not known and no arrests have been made.
A large crowd gathered by the air ambulance helicopter in General Gordon Square.
Amy Pierpoint, who works as an artist, said the entire square had been cordoned off as “two hundred” people gathered.
“Apparently the woman got attacked by her own dog and she's in such a bad way they can't even get her to the helicopter," the 29-year-old told the Evening Standard.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed a woman had been taken to a “major trauma centre as a priority” after the crew responded to calls at 4.25pm.
Hospital admissions for dog attacks have risen by 76 per cent over the past ten years, according to official statistics released in May 2015.
