Woman subjected to terrifying knife-point car jacking on busy road in broad daylight

A young woman was subjected to a terrifying car jacking at knife point in Didsbury.

The 29-year-old had been dropping a friend home near on Ballbrook Avenue, of Wilmslow Road, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday (June 10).

She had been putting her postcode into her phone when a man, wearing all black with a face mask, approached the drivers side of the car.

The woman claims the man pulled a seven or eight inch kitchen knife from his jacket, and threatened to kill her if she didn't get out of the car.

Greater Manchester Police say they are investigating the robbery, but no arrests have been made, and the woman's car has not been returned.

"It was horrible," the woman, who doesn't want to be named, told the Manchester Evening News .

"I was literally there about 10 seconds, my friend got out of the car and I was just putting my postcode in my phone when a man appeared at my window saying something.

"He opened my car door and opened his jacket and had a massive kitchen knife. He said get out the car or I will kill you.

"He was so close and he had the door open - if I had tried to drive off it would have been way too risky."

The woman says she got out of her car with her mobile phone and car keys, but the man grabbed them off of her.

She managed to take a picture of the man which she has sent to police officers investigating the robbery.

"It was broad daylight when it happened and Wilmslow Road was so busy, so I am hoping someone might have seen something," she said.

"I live on my own and my house keys were with my car keys so I have had to get all my locks changed.

"All my car documents have my address on them so that is really frightening. I am still feeling really weary."

A spokesperson from GMP said the robbery had been reported to them, and that enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information should call 101. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
