Woman stunned to find out true value of £3 necklace on Antiques Roadshow

A woman was stunned to discover a necklace she bought for £3 in a charity shop was actually worth a lot more.

Appearing on tonight's Antiques Roadshow the woman explained how she had seen it in the shop, but her husband was in a rush so they were going to leave when she decided she "had to have it" so rushed back to buy it.

The woman thought it was a Pate de Verre art glass pendant and the antiques expert Anthony McConnell said she was correct and he thought it was from a little earlier than the 1920s.

He said: "I've been doing the roadshow for 15 years and this is the first piece of Pate de Verre I've done, so it shows you how rare it is.

"It's a lovely, lovely thing, so you go back in the charity shop and spend £3 on something, in its absolute original condition, that's worth £700-£1,000."

The crowd around her gasped and the owner was stunned and said: "No, thank you, thank you very much."

And viewers at home also couldn't believe it.

Pip Holden said: "Trawling through charity shops can be very surprising! £3 spent but worth £700 - £1000! Amazing."

Stuart Hardaker said: "Why can I never find something valuable in a charity shop or in a box in my house?"

And @angegarrod said: "What a gorgeous pendant!"

*Antiques Roadshow continues at 8pm on BBC1 on Sunday
