Woman stunned as she wakes up to discover her garden lawn had vanished overnight

A woman was stunned to discover her garden lawn had vanished while she was asleep.

The 62-year-old, named Elizabeth, believes the AstroTurf she had lovingly laid out outside her home was taken by thieves.

She first realised it was gone when her son went outside yesterday morning, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Elizabeth, who did not give her full name, said there is no way the turf could have blown away in the wind, as it was well secured with tape and had plant pots and stones on top of it.

The artificial grass came from Elizabeth's mother-in-law who sadly died in January and cost her around £100.

She said yesterday: "My son went outside this morning and he said 'what's happened to the turf?'

"I said 'what do you mean?' So I went out and it just looks like it's been pulled out and rolled up.

"I just couldn't believe it. It's comical in a way, why have they done it?

"It could be some lads had a few to drink and thought it was a bit of a laugh to take it or someone has targeted it and knew what they were looking for."

The thieves would have climbed over the wall to her home, Elizabeth believes (Getty Images)

Elizabeth said the main piece of turf was taken but other pieces have been left behind.

She believes that whoever took it must have climbed over the garden wall, due to the damaged plants in that area.

She added: "We put it down just before lockdown around about March time and it's not been moved since.

"I had slate and stones on it to stop it moving and it was stuck down.

"If someone has seen it or saw what happened it would be useful to know what happened."
