Woman stung by Irukandji in Whitsundays

A woman has been airlifted to Mackay Hospital in Queensland after reports of an Irukandji sting. (AAP)

A woman has been airlifted to Mackay Hospital after reportedly being stung by an Irukandji jellyfish on Hayman Island in the Whitsundays.

The woman in her 20s presented to a local medical centre with reports of a serious sting.

Queensland Amublance Service says an emergency RACQ helicopter was tasked at midday to respond, with a flight critical paramedic on board for assistance.

QAS says the patient is in a stable condition.
