Woman struggling with 'hopeless love life' left in tears over stranger's kind note

We've all had moments where we felt like our love lives were "hopeless" and we would never be able to find the one.

This is a feeling 21-year-old Karyn Vallantyne knows only too well and she was recently telling her friend Grace how she was ready to 'give up on love' entirely.

Karyn, a recruitment agency worker, was gloomily chatting to her pal on the phone during a train journey, when a mysterious stranger dropped a note in her lap, before getting off at her stop.

The singleton said she expected it to tell her to 'stop moaning' but when she read the woman's words, she was reduced to tears.

Instead of a cruel comment, the kind-hearted stranger had written: "You're worth more, move on."

The note made Karyn realise there's 'more to life' than being in a relationship and she now hopes to track down the thoughtful stranger - who she believes could have been sent by her 'guardian angels' - so she can thank her properly.

Karyn, from Basildon, Essex, said: "I can't remember where on the line she got off but I was looking at my phone and she leaned over and dropped it into my lap.

"I'd been people watching so I'd seen she was doing the crossword, she ripped the corner of the page off to write on it.

"When I read it, I just burst into tears. I looked up to see if I could see her. There were loads of other people looking at me and I got really embarrassed. My friend was on the phone asking if I was still there because I couldn't speak. It was really lovely, I was in fits of tears.

"It said 'you're worth more. Move on'. It's so short but it had such a big impact.

"I wasn't expecting it, I thought it was going to say 'shut up' or something, I didn't expect it to be remotely kind."

Karyn, who was on her way home from work, had hopped on the train in London and called her friend for an emotional chat when the woman handed her the note.

The woman, who Karyn thinks might have been around 30 or 40, with mousy brown hair and was wearing a trench coat, then hopped off the train without saying a word.

Karyn added: "It was like a slap in the face. I should listen to my friend's advice but I have to learn the hard way, it was a massive wake up call.

"I was telling Grace about my love life and how I've been treated badly in the past and I'm basically giving up and losing hope. I wasn't crying but I was definitely down.

"My friend is one of those who tells you not to go back to your ex or talk to your ex. I said I find it hard to move on.

"I was sick of being on my own on Valentine's. It makes you think there's something wrong with you.

"I have always been a very romance-orientated person. If I'm not in a relationship I think less of myself.

"It was nice for someone to make me see there's more to life.

"It was a wake-up call to not place so much value on whether someone sends you flowers on Valentine's day."

Karyn has since taken to social media to try and track down the stranger who she'd like to thank and the post has racked up almost 200 comments from people who were impressed by the heart-warming gesture.

One wrote: "Honey, that wasn't just a random stranger that was a sign from the Universe itself! I hope whatever you're going through gets better bc [because] you do deserve more."

Another replied: "I truly believe in the kindness of strangers, most people are pretty decent humans. You never really know what people are going through, so be kind at all times."

Karyn added: "I hope I manage to find her, it would be lovely. I'd like to send her some flowers or something to let her know I've acknowledged and appreciate what she wrote."
