A 29-year-old pregnant woman from the North Side was struck and killed by a semitrailer Tuesday in the River North neighborhood, according to police.
The woman was identified as Elizabeth Boshardy, of the 1600 block of West Cortez Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Boshardy was crossing the intersection of Grand Avenue and LaSalle Drive about 11:30 a.m. when she was struck by a semi turning left on Grand, Chicago police said.
She was pinned under the semi and had to be extricated, according to Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Merritt.
Paramedics took her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Neither police nor fire officials could confirm whether the unborn child survived.
The driver, a 67-year-old man from west suburban Lyons, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to police.
Boshardy worked for Trunk Club as a data scientist, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Trunk Club’s office in Chicago is about three blocks from where Boshardy was struck.
In an email, a Trunk Club spokeswoman on Wednesday said: “At this time out of respect for her family, we cannot provide a comment.”
Boshardy graduated from Lane Tech College Prep before earning degrees from the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago, according to LinkedIn.
She got married in 2017 to Michael Boshardy, according to the wedding website The Knot.
The pair met during an AP statistics class in high school, they wrote on the site.
A spokeswoman for the Lane Tech Alumni Association said she graduated in 2008.
