Woman struck by car in Shawlands during rush hour

A woman has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle in the southside during rush hour.

The incident happened around 6pm this evening (Tuesday) at the junction of Pollokshaws Road, Langside Avenue and Minard Road, near to the Shed nightclub.

Drivers are experiencing major delays in the area as a result and are urged to find an alternative route if possible.

A police spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "We were called to assist the ambulance service who were dealing with a traffic collision involving a female and a car just before 6pm tonight.

"The woman was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

"Police are assisting with traffic management."

An eyewitness who contacted Glasgow Live shortly after the incident said there was a huge police presence in attendance, as well as the ambulance service, and traffic was congested.

Glasgow City Council traffic officers have now issued a warning for motorists to prepare for delays.

A statement adds: "Road users can expect delays on all approaches to the junction of Pollokshaws Road, Langside Avenue and Minard Road.

"Lane restrictions are in place due to an earlier road traffic collision."

The condition of the woman is unknown at this time.
