Woman struck by car in Motherwell sparking emergency response

A woman has been taken to hospital after being struck by a car in Motherwell .

Emergency services raced to the scene on Shields Road shortly before 5pm amid reports the woman was knocked down near to the Bull Frog pub.

She was taken to Wishaw General Hospital to be checked over - with the extent of her injuries not yet known.

There are not thought to have been any road closures as a result of the incident.

Posting on a Motherwell community Facebook group, local Carol Richmond said: "Someone been knocked down at Shields Road across from the chip shop, hope they are ok.

"There are 3 ambulances and police there."

Beth Hayes added: "Just passed there too, hope all ok".

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers were called at around 4.45pm to reports that a woman was struck down by a car on Shields Road in Motherwell, near to the Bull Frog pub.

"Officers attended the incident and the woman was taken to Wishaw General Hospital to be checked over.

"The extent of her injuries are not yet known".
