Woman stopped for 'chatting away' on phone while driving van on M60

Police stopped a woman ‘chatting away’ on her phone while driving a van on the M60 yesterday afternoon.

The driver, who had plugged her phone in to charge while talking, was pulled over by the North West Motorway Police.

The woman continued her conversation until she was stopped.

It is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving, queuing in traffic or when stopped at lights.

The penalty for using a handheld device while driving is a fine of £200 and six points on your licence.

Greater Manchester Police Traffic tweeted on Wednesday: “She’d even plugged the phone in to avoid losing charge.

“Oblivious to her surroundings she continued the call until #XT61 stopped her.”

She was then issued a traffic offence report (TOR), police said.
