Woman steps in after mum-to-be is 'womb shamed' by Starbucks barista over her order

Most pregnant women are very well-acquainted with the list of things they can't eat or drink .

They have nine, long months to meditate on it, in fact, so it's best to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to managing their diet.

Sadly, another downside of being pregnant - in addition to certain items being off-limits - is the urge some people get to give you unsolicited advice.

A Starbucks barista recently felt this irrepressible urge when a mum-to-be ordered a drink with him.

Happily for her, comedian Tiffany Stevenson overheard the exchange and decided to intervene.

Tiffany later tweeted about the "womb-shaming" incident and wrote:

"Unbelievable bit of womb bothering in Starbucks at services. A pregnant woman got her Caramel Macchiato and the guy behind the counter said:

"'Oh, it's for you . Do you want me to make a decaf?'

"She said 'No, thanks'.

Luckily another customer stepped in (Getty Images)

"Him: 'No I should because caffeine is bad for the baby.'

"Her: 'It's fine I have one a day.'

"Him: 'But...you shouldn't.'

"Me *almost spontaneously combusting* ‘Are you a man , telling a woman what she should and shouldn't have during a pregnancy?

"Then he says: 'Oh just because it's bad for the baby so that’s why I'm saying it.'"

"Me: 'Unbelievable. Stop it.'"

He dug himself a bit of a hole (Getty Images/EyeEm)

Tiffany then added that the barista spent five minutes trying to justify "policing a stranger". She finished with, "He was maybe 30 years old max.

"Are they also doing Ob/Gyn training at Starbucks these days?"

Now for some cold, hard medical facts.

The NHS say that pregnant women can have up to 200mg of caffeine a day, which equates to two instant coffees.

According to Yahoo! , there's between 150 and 170mg of caffeine in a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato, so the lady was in safe perimeters with her choice of drink.

Moreover, it really wasn't the barista's place to say anything.

Tiffany's tweet was picked up on by a lot of people - including one mum-to-be who wrote:

"I'm currently pregnant and if someone tried to take my one coffee a day away I’d punch them in the face. None of his business. Love you for sticking up for her."

We couldn't agree more.
