A north Queensland woman has been stabbed in the backyard of her own home during the early hours of this morning.
Police said the 29-year-old was asleep at her Thuringowa home when she was disturbed by a sound outside her bedroom.
When she stepped outside to investigate, she was stabbed in the right side of her chest.
Paramedics rushed the woman to the Townsville University Hospital in a serious condition.
Police said her injuries were not life threatening.
After spending hours at the hospital, a spokesperson said her condition had stabilised.
Police said they were urgently searching for the man who fled the scene after the stabbing.
He has been described as 185 centimetres tall, having a slim build, with a dark complexion, and was reportedly wearing a hooded jumper at the time of the attack.
Anyone with further information or dashcam vision of the area around that time is urged to contact police.
Second weapon incident in 24 hours
The stabbing is the second incident involving a weapon in the city in just 24 hours.
Early Thursday morning police were called to a Mundingburra home after reports that a man was threatened with a gun.
Officers said at about 3:00am the man woke to the noise of his car being stolen.
He went outside his house and found a person sitting in his car, in the process of stealing the vehicle.
When the man attempted to stop the theft he was threatened with a weapon that appeared to be a gun.
The stolen car was spotted driving erratically throughout the city during the morning, however police were unable to pursue or intercept the vehicle due to the risk it would post to the community.
Police said they were still searching for the offenders involved in the incident.
