A woman was found stabbed, and a man was found dead in a bedroom Monday in Austin on the West Side.

Officers responded to a home about 1:40 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Potomac Avenue after someone reported a smell coming from a back bedroom, Chicago police said.

There, officers found a 47-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman who were both unresponsive face down on the floor, police said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Autopsy results released Tuesday found the woman, identified as Markita Rogers, died of a stab wound to the neck and ruled her death a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. A ruling on the man’s cause and manner of death was pending. His identity has not been released.

Area Five detectives are investigating.
