NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A 48-year-old woman spent a lonely, painful night with her head trapped between two steel bars of her gate before she was noticed and freed on Tuesday morning.

Rescue workers were called to the home of Aree Payklang in Ban Porbid village in Khong district about 4.45am.

They found her sitting on the ground with her head trapped sideways between two steel bars of the entry gate.

The woman's face was injured, she was shivering violently in the cold air and having trouble breathing because her nose was squashed by one of the bars.

Rescuers took five minutes to force the bars apart and free her.

She told them she had stumbled as she was entering her home about 7pm on Monday. The fall forced her head between the bars and it was trapped there.

It was not until about 4am that someone saw her and called for help.
