Woman speechless as £10 Wirral car boot purchase is worth thousands on Antiques Roadshow

A woman on Antiques Roadshow was left speechless after an item she purchased at a carboot sale for £10 was actually worth thousands of pounds.

The guest brought in an 1887 drawing album filled with sketches of bicycles.

She said: "I bought it in a box of books at a car boot sale many years ago and just found it so interesting we've kept it ever since in a drawer.

"When guests come round, we say 'have you seen our cycling book?' as it's local to where we live in Chester and the Wirral, everyone seems to find it interesting."

The expert added: "Yes, I've seen here it says the 'Wirral bicycle club 1887 opening run'."

The woman then revealed she had only paid £10 for the collection of books.

In the drawing album, there were drafts of safety bicycles, three-wheelers and penny farthings.

The expert then revealed its value.

He said: "I think they'd have to pay between £2,000 to £3,000 for this one."

The woman responded in shock, saying: "Wow that's great."
