Woman sparks fury after mounting pavement to barge in front of funeral procession

A biker escort group leading a funeral service were left appalled after an 'inconsiderate' woman mounted the pavement with her car to avoid waiting behind the procession. Nick Alcock was part of a funeral procession on the afternoon of January 16 near the Southcoates Lane Area in East Hull.

There were cars parked on both sides of the road and the funeral director, Mike East Funeral Services, had to help a disabled lady into the funeral car, Hull Live reports. While most cars patiently waited out of respect, one woman chose not to and barged her way to the front of the hearse.

The female driver has been behind the funeral cars and allegedly almost hit one of the biker escorts while she struggled to get through them and beeped her horn for them to move. She had a dispute with the biker escorts who confronted her and they contacted Humberside Police after the woman had been on her phone while driving.

Nick explained: “This lady was behind all the hearses and she decided she didn’t want to wait so she started beeping her horn and moving one of the bikers off the road. She was nearly going to hit his bike and she got to the front and she couldn’t get through so we had a little word with her and she started laughing.

"She said I’m going to report you for all this. She was in the wrong. First of all, she was in front of our vehicle with the engine going and she shouldn't have been on her mobile phone as well so she's breaking a rule there straight away.

"It is surprising how many people do cut funeral directors. They do it day to day. It only takes five to 10 minutes. He was putting a disabled lady into the car.

"She didn't want to wait at all. She was inconsiderate. She decided to start videoing us and start laughing and she thought it was very funny.

"She literally barged herself through. She couldn't get anywhere because there were two bikes on the road. She just had to wait. She stuck her finger up.”

Richard East from Mike East Funeral Services said: “I only found out today that it was a lady driving because I didn't see who was actually driving the vehicle but we did have someone who wasn’t prepared to wait and had to mount the curb and force her way past us because she wasn’t prepared to wait. The lady pulled up behind us and the next thing I knew was that she had driven around us across the path and squeezed between the hearse and a car just to try to get through but couldn’t get out.”

Nick added that another bike escort told the rude woman: "one day you’ll be in one of them and they’ll be nobody to look after you so bare that in mind".

In total, there were 18 biker escorts, two funeral cars and two or three other cars present on the road. Nick and the rest of the biker escorts do not charge for their service as he explains they are a biking community and provide escorts for former bikers or biker fans who have passed away.

Nick said Humberside Police were 'very interested' to learn the woman was on her phone while driving. Officers have now opened up an investigation into the incident and the biker was given a crime number.
