Amid the cost of living crisis and surging costs of everyday living, homeowners and tenants alike are searching for cheaper and inexpensive ways to transform their houses on a budget. Getting hands-on with a renovation in her home, one TikToker chose to DIY the grout in her bathroom, but it's caused quite a stir online.
Klowee - who posts under the handle @paws_111 - caused a large debate amongst more than 4.3 million viewers as she took a £1 Sharpie to the walls of her bathroom. In the video, which was shared to popular video-streaming service TikTok, people claimed that the life hack was a huge mistake.
Marking over her original white grout, the TikToker took the popular black marker to her walls to DIY her own black grout.
At the time, the woman wrote: "£1 bathroom DIY."
However, the simple task didn't sit well with users online as they flocked to the comment section - clearly torn over the concept.
One user said: "Oh lord. That’s going to look even worse in a few weeks when it fades to a washed away purple shade."
Another agreed: "OMG! Sorry, but I found it much nicer and modern before, now it looks cheaper..."
Meanwhile, a third wrote: "Bestie grout pens are so cheap."
Admitting that her hack "ruffled some feathers", the woman confronted controversial comments in a much-anticipated follow up video.
"I did not expect that video to blow up like it did, but I thought that I'd answer a few of your questions," she explained.
She continued: "So, for those of you who are saying that you can get grout markers on Amazon. I bought the marker a couple of months ago and it's s***.
"Also, my landlord lady doesn't care that I've done that to the bathroom.
"And it's my bathroom, so I can do what I want.
"There's a few people saying that it looks wonky, but the main thing is that I love it, so that's all that matters."
