Woman sparks debate after slating 'lazy' husband for not eating two-day-old sandwiches

Taking a pre-prepared lunch to work with you is a great way to save money on expensive lunchtime meal deals or pricey sandwiches from coffee shops.

But making your lunch the night before can be a chore, as one woman has been finding out recently as she offered to make her husband's lunch every evening ready for him to take to work the next morning.

And the woman has been left fuming at her spouse over one of his lunchtime habits, as he insists on eating his packed lunch even if he works from home - meaning she always has to re-make his lunch in the evening, even on days when he could have made himself something else to eat.

The woman believes her husband could save his sandwiches for the next day when he's back in the office, but her opinions have sparked debate online - with many saying they don't blame her spouse for not wanting to eat "two-day-old" food.

In a post on Mumsnet, she ranted: "I make my partner sandwiches to take to the office most weekdays. I do this in the evening then put them in the fridge for him to take in the morning.

"If he decides to work from home instead, he still eats the sandwiches, despite lots of other options instead - eggs on toast, salad, quiche etc - which we have in the house.

"This annoys me as it seems so lazy and I have sandwiches to make again for the next day. He could save the ones I made for the following day. I'd love to know if this would annoy others too. It drives me mad."

The woman insisted she makes her husband's lunch because of the way they have "divided some tasks" in the house, and said he "does stuff" for her too, so she doesn't mind making his sandwiches.

However, that didn't stop commenters from telling her to stop making his lunch if the situation is annoying her, while some others said they wouldn't want to save the sarnies either.

One person said: "In fairness, I wouldn't fancy two-day-old sandwiches either. Although why doesn't he make his own? That bit would annoy me more."

While another added: "Two-day-old sandwiches are horrible. Even when I work from home I'm so busy that I don't have time to do anything other than grab a pre-made sandwich. If you resent it then just don't make them."

And a third stated: "If they're already made then it seems perfectly sensible to eat them if WFH. Saving them another day and eating two-day-old soggy sandwiches is gross. However, if you'd like him to be a grown-up and start making his own lunch then totally fair enough. It's a bit weird to make it all about the location though!"

In later comments, the woman revealed she "doesn't like" making her husband lunch, so it "annoys" her when he then decides to work from home as it means she's made his lunch for "no reason".

She also said she would be chatting to her husband about re-organising the chores so he can make his own lunch, and said she understood the comments about sandwiches tasting best when they're made fresh that day.
