Woman slashed on the head by thug while walking her dog in Johnstone

A woman was rushed to hospital after being slashed on the head by two thugs while out walking her dog.

The 43-year-old was out with her pet in Tannahill Crescent in Johnstone around 7pm last night when she encountered the two men in the street.

An argument broke out between the group, resulting in one of the man attacking the woman with a weapon.

She was struck on the head during the violent incident with what police say was a "sharp implement" and was left with a wound that required hospital treatment.

The brutes involved in the dispute - which was understood to have been about the dog - then made off from the scene.

The woman, who lives nearby in the Cochrane Castle area of the town, was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

She was later released after her wound was treated by medics.

Police are treating the incident as serious assault and appealing for anyone in the area who may have witnessed the attack to get in touch to assist with their enquiries.

Detective constable Gary Bruce, of Paisley CID, is leading the investigation.

He said: "This was an incredibly distressing incident for the victim who had been out walking her dog in the early hours of the evening to then be subjected to a serious assault.

"The 43-year-old victim required hospital treatment for the serious injury she sustained after being struck on the head with a sharp implement.

"We are now investigating what has happened and would urge anyone who may have witnessed something in the area around the time of the assault to please get in touch with us.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing and any information which the public may have which they think would assist with the investigation can be passed on by contacting police on 101 or calling Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
