A woman has been slammed by her parents after she threatened not to show up for their annual Christmas dinner because her husband was not sent his own personal invitation. The woman, who was already invited to her parents' for the big day, was left outraged by her parent's decision to "disrespect" her partner.
The husband, who has never gotten along well with his wife's family, also demanded his own invite and said he was not happy with his name simply being an extension on his partner's card, the Mirror reports. Taking to Reddit, the anonymous woman explained that their response to the invitation had not gone down well with her parents, and her dad accused her husband of trying to humiliate them.
In the post, the woman said: "I recently got an invitation for a Christmas celebration from my parents. The invitation included me and my husband but he thought this was somewhat rude and disrespectful because he believes he should get his own invitation and not have his name mentioned as an 'extension' to mine."
She went on to explain that her husband was refusing to attend the occasion so the woman was forced to call her parents and ask them to send his own individual card addressed to him. She wrote: " I called mum and asked if she could do it. She thought it was ridiculous and said that she and dad did the same with my sister and her husband. She got defensive and said that my husband is being ridiculous.
"Dad claimed that he is trying to pull some power move to humiliate them but I thought this was a small issue. They still thought it was ridiculous so I told them I won't attend if they don't send him a separate invitation because he won't attend if he doesn't get it."

The author went on to say that her entire family has backed her parents who continue to refuse to send her husband his own invite as they believe the couple are being too sensitive about the situation. She added: "We haven't talked after that and we're waiting as of now"
Many Reddit users were quick to side with the parents and agreed that the woman and her husband were being very unreasonable. One person said: "This isn't about the invitation. He just doesn't want to go. Your choice is to stay with him, or go without him."
While another stated: "The problem is him. This is not a two sided issue. He is isolating her, who is so used to tip toeing around him and his nonsense that she can't tell where the problem began."
