As more people get involved in the fight, cars can be heard beeping their horns to try and break up the scene.

"There was lots of shouting and fronting up, the one in the grey trackie [sic] kept shouting at the older woman that she was 'going to bite the nose off her'.

"I was horrified that the fella holding the baby was punching the other man.

"He dropped the baby, but they still carried on fighting over the child as she lay on the floor screaming."

The fight, which happened around school pick up time, lasted around 15 minutes with lots of families and children becoming "visibly upset".

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "At around 2.15pm today we received a report of an altercation on the junction of Green Lane and West Derby Road.

The eyewitness said: "Cars had pulled over and abandoned at the roadside as people rushed to join in. It was carnage.

"Felt so sorry for the poor kids involved."
