A 21-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition after being shot in the arm at a house in Burpengary East, north of Brisbane on Thursday.
Police said at least two men forced their way into a home at Talbot Way just after 1:00pm on Thursday before a gun was fired and the woman was shot.
They said six people, including two children, were at the property at the time but no one else was injured.
The Curra woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
Moreton Bay District Inspector Craig White said an extensive land and air search was underway to locate the two male suspects.
"At least two male suspects forced entry into the residence at which time a firearm was discharged and a female was injured," Inspector White said.
"We are investigating by talking to neighbours and looking at CCTV footage.
"This neighbourhood is generally a very safe neighbourhood. We don't believe it was a random shooting.
"We don't know what the details of the disturbance were but police received multiple calls to the residence prior to attending."
Local resident Ben said he called police after hearing a gunshot.
"It sounded like someone got hurt … I did hear a gunshot and some yelling so I called emergency," he said.
"We then heard some people driving away but we didn't see much when we looked outside."
Police said they do not believe the men are a threat to anyone else but urged the public to contact police if they notice anything suspicious in the Moreton Bay region.
