'Wouldn't hurt a fly': Woman shot in face through front door of Morayfield home

A woman shot in the face through the front door of her home north of Brisbane late on Wednesday night is in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Police said a single shot was fired through the door of the unit in Hargrave Street, Morayfield, after a group of six people arrived just after 10:00pm.

Sheryl Hendy, 52, suffered injuries to her face and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment, where she is in a critical condition.

Police declared a crime scene at the home and have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

A neighbour, Matt, told of hearing a "bang", rushing next door and "virtually walking into a cloud of gun smoke".

"I went to bed about 10pm and heard a bang about 5 [minutes later]," Matt said.

"Initially I thought it was a car accident or something, because of the screaming afterwards.

"Then I went next door, found out what had happened, and just tried to keep the whole situation calm and help my neighbours it as much as I could … just making sure she was alright until emergency services, police showed up.

"As far as why would anyone want to do it, I have no idea.

"She's one of the nicest ladies you could ever meet, do anything for anyone, wouldn't hurt a fly, a lovely lady."
