Woman shoots carjacker who was trying to steal her SUV with kids inside, Dallas police say

DALLAS _ A woman shot a carjacker in the head who was trying to steal her SUV with her two children inside Wednesday, Dallas police say.

A gas station employee alerted the woman about 10 p.m. that a man was trying to get into her SUV in the 200 block of West Camp Wisdom Road near the border with Duncanville.

She jumped in the vehicle. When the suspect didn't stop trying to steal the vehicle, she pulled a gun from the glove box and shot him in the head, police said.

The vehicle then crashed into a utility pole.

The suspect, 36-year-old Ricky Wright, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. He faces two counts of unlawful restraint and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The woman and her children were not injured, police said.
