Woman shocked as she returns home to find naked man lying in her bed

A woman returned to her home to find a Wishaw man lying naked and asleep on her bed.

Brian Hoey appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday and admitted getting into a woman’s home in Elison Court, Muirhouse, on May 18.

The court heard Hoey and the woman had been in a short term relationship for two months.

However, the romance had ended albeit there had been contact from Hoey, of Langholm Crescent, Coltness, which was ignored.

At around 8pm on May 18, the woman left her home with her new partner and went to his house to spend the night.

She went to bed at around 11.30pm and turned her phone onto silent.

At some point during the night, Hoey went to the woman’s home and entered it via a kitchen window after removing a latch.

Between 3.22am and 3.52am he made 12 phone calls to the woman’s phone and left one voicemail in which he said he was at her home.

The woman got the message when she woke up at 11am.

She then went to the house with her new partner and noticed the front door was still locked.

When she went into her bedroom she found 26-year-old Hoey lying naked but asleep on her bed.

Hoey was woken up and he then told the woman to shut up and that this was his house before getting his clothes together and leaving the property.

Police were then contacted who noticed there were marks on the kitchen window.

Hoey’s solicitor admitted the case was “highly unusual” and the relationship between Hoey and the woman was a casual one.

The solicitor added: “His position is that he had went to the house and that he was waiting for the woman to return.

“There was an understanding that she would be there that night. He understands the woman’s position that there was no relationship but he maintains it was casual.

“He accepts that he caused the woman fear and alarm. It’s a confusing set of circumstances.”

Sheriff Thomas Millar opted to defer sentence on Hoey until August 16 and called for reports with a non-harassment order also to be considered.
