Woman shocked after allegedly being 'thrown against taxi' after filming men blocking ambulance in Dublin

A woman said she was left shaken after allegedly being "thrown against a taxi" by men she filmed obstructing an ambulance in Dublin city centre.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, was out for dinner late last Thursday night and was looking to get a cab from Temple Bar to the quays, Dublin Live reported.

She stated: "There was an ambulance in the lane at Fitzsimon's with its lights on trying to get onto the quays I presume to go to hospital.

"A man was blocking the ambulance in the laneway, the ambulance tried to get him to move but he wouldn't move. I decided to record it in case it was needed by the National Ambulance Service or the guards, another man next to me decided to do the same."

Footage seen by Dublin Live shows one man blocking the ambulance as it attempts to pass through a narrow lane.

The video shows a second man approach and confront the woman for filming the act.

She alleges that the friend of the man blocking the ambulance came up and grabbed another witness' phone in an attempt to delete the footage.

She said: "Then he came for my phone, I said don't touch me or my property, I put my phone in my jacket pocket and I walked on to the quay."

She then went to quickly hail a taxi on the street, saying: "I hailed a taxi then what happened was the guy caught me from behind and threw me against the taxi. He started screaming and roaring in my face to give him my phone."

She added that she was in shock and turned, pushing the man away who tried to persuade the taxi man that they were all together.

"So he was trying to get the taxi to leave so I would be stuck on my own with these two men and the man who helped me, but I had already talked to the taxi man so he had the cop on not to leave me with them.

"They kept screaming in my face and when I said I was going to call the guards, the second I said it I was going to call the guards the two of them sprinted down the quays," she said.

A resident in Dublin for close to a decade, the anonymous woman said it was the first time she had experienced an incident of this nature.

"I was just shocked how they treated us and I've reported it to the guards."

The Irish Mirror has contacted An Garda Síochána for comment.
