Woman shares 'life-saving' Apple Pay feature for when your phone is dead

Using Apple Pay on your phone can be much more convenient than searching in your pockets for your card at every use especially when you're travelling. However, there's always the underlying fear that your mobile could run out of battery, leaving you helpless.

Thankfully, a woman online has put an end to all of these concerns as her viral video, which has surpassed 7.9 million views since posting, claims you can use Apple Pay even when your phone doesn't have any charge. Taking to popular video-streaming app TikTok, Anastasia Koss shared the little-known tip with her followers, which they have since labelled as "life-saving".

Sharing a video of herself dancing in celebration, the TikToker wrote beside her video: "Me today when I learned I can still use Apple Pay even when my phone dies."

The feature has been around for a while now, but despite this many people are still being left gobsmacked by the woman's discovery as few seem to know about it.

It's recognised as Apple Pay's 'Express Mode', and is intended to be used to pay for travel. The feature allows people to press their phone straight onto Tube payment machines even without unlocking the device.

And Apple's website states that it can also work when your device is in need of charging.

For it to work, you'll need to set up the Express Travel Card in your iPhone Settings, which you can only do if you have a card that is supported by the feature.

To do this, you simply go to Settings - Wallet & Apply Pay. There you'll be able to see which of your cards are compatible.

As Apple explains: "With Express Mode, you can use some of your cards, keys and passes in Apple Wallet without waking or unlocking your device, or authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

"You may even be able to use your card, pass or key when your device needs to be charged."

Sharing their thoughts on the mind-blowing hidden hack, budding users rushed to the comment section of the popular post to share their inevitable shock at Anastasia's discovery.

"OH WHAT," one person penned.

"I FOUND THIS OUT TODAY TOO," another shocked user added.

Meanwhile, someone tagged a friend and wrote "YOU ALWAYS HAVE THIS PROBLEM."

"You can even unlock your car if your phone's dead. Life saver," a different user claimed.

"It's mainly for travel so here in LDN when your phone dies you can still tap at the barriers. So you’re technically using your card but for travel," someone else clarified.
