Woman shares 'humane' hack to get rid of mice without using traps

A woman has shared a cheap hack which she claims gets rid of mice without using traps to catch them/

No one wants a mouse infestation, but many aren't keen on traps - and especially the clean up job that follows if the rodent is caught and killed. But as reported by the Express, a woman took to TikTok to share her surprising steel wool hack to get rid of mice without having to rely on traps.

The simple trick, which she shared with her 141.5K followers, involved using the steel wool in between any spaces where mice may be lurking.

The woman, who posts under the username @jenscottwrites, says: "If you have a mouse problem I'm about to make your day and it's a very cheap solution.

"Stainless steel scrubbing pads. You can get a pack of them for under [£5].

"Mice like to run along the walls so put them in between appliances, cabinets and anywhere else you can think.

"Apparently mice don't like them so it will save you money on having to hire pest control and it's a little bit more humane because trust me you don't want to have to wake up every single morning cleaning up dead mice from mouse traps."

Steel wool, or scrubbing pads, have also been recommended by former exterminator Emiley Smelley as a "money-saving" way to solve a mouse problem.

"I used to be an exterminator," she explained. "I'm going to tell you what you should do in your home if you have mice.

"You could catch a million mice but if you don't do exclusion it won't matter. Exclusion means using steel wool to fill up anything the size of a dime because mice can fit through anything the size of a dime. So you take steel wool."

The expert recommended using it to fill holes in baseboards and piping, such as those beneath your sink, by the radiators or on the wall for the fridge, oven and dishwasher.

While uncomfortable for mice and rats to chew, it is an easy way to ward them off without causing death.
