Woman shares her £1.29 homemade fly trap - and it catches bugs in seconds

Many of us take pride in our homes being clean and tidy, and our collective obsession with leaving our spaces spotless has inspired countless amounts of cleaning hacks to circulate online. Homemade remedies to popular problems always prove to be a firm favourite, and one issue that many people can't stand is the pesky flies that enter our homes - particularly during the warmer months.

These tiny insects are not only incredibly annoying thanks to their constant buzzing around, they can also make your home feel unsanitary, especially when it comes to fruit flies or other pests circulating around your kitchen.

One woman has shared a simple homemade fly trap that not only helps you save money on costly alternatives, but works brilliantly - trapping pesky insects in seconds.

Taking to TikTok to reveal her findings, the woman, who goes by the social media handle @ lozfaz on the platform, treated viewers to a handy tutorial on how to make the DIY trap - which merely involves some washing up liquid, a small jar or ramequin and some cling film.

The TikTok user shows footage of a kitchen unit with all the required components needed to make the fly trap.

The woman says: "I'm here to show you how to make a fly trap because I've seen people make the wrong."

The clip then shows the TikTok user pouring a small amount of washing up liquid into a glass ramequin.

She says: "I use washing up liquid. This is the amount you want. I've seen people use way too much which is why it's not been working for them".

The woman then pours cider vinegar into the jar, before saying: "You want it [the washing up liquid] to be just enough so the fly can't fly out but not too much to overpower the apple cider vinegar which is what we're putting in now".

The social media user then fills the jar up to the brim with vinegar, before explaining that anyone wanting to re-create the trap must use apple cider vinegar as it's "sweeter so it will attract the flies".

After giving it a "good mix" the woman then covers the ramequins with cling film, making sure it's sitting tight across the rim.

She then pokes the cling film with a sharp knife in a certain direction, explaining: "I don't know if you can tell the angle I'm using the knife at but it means the cling film is pointing downwards so once the fly is in, it's very hard for the fly to fly back out."

The video then moves onto a clip showing a fly trapped in the mixture, and the woman claims that it got trapped "10 seconds after" she put the jar down.

The woman then shows footage of the jar "3 days later" which shows a large amount of fruit flies floating around in the liquid.

You can buy washing up liquid from Tesco from 44p and apple cider vinegar from 85p, making this a great budget hack.

Plenty of people flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the nifty hack, with one person writing: "fruit fly's [sic] are a nightmare this year ! great tip".

Others shared similar suggestions on banishing the buzzy insects: "We used to use jam and dissolve in hot water. The wasps love it.".

Another said: "I use washing up liquid and vinger [sic] and a touch of water and ive [sic] been catching loads never covered mine".

One person warned others to only place the jars in certain areas: "Just to let you know this mixture also attracts more of them so best of [sic] leaving outside near front/ back doors before they can enter the house".
