Woman shares hack to stop avocados going brown once you've cut them in half

A woman has shared a simple tip to help cut down on food waste by keeping avocados fresh for longer.

The fruit is notoriously hard to judge when it is ripe and ready to eat, but once you build up a sixth sense through years of experience, you'll be rewarded with perfect avocado toast.

However, if you only need to use half the avocado and decide to save the rest for tomorrow, you'll often find it has turned brown in fridge overnight and all your hard work has been undone.

Thankfully, a TikTok user replied to @Thelifebath 's trend challenging people to demonstrate their best life hacks to explain how you can keep your sliced avocado green and fresh - and it couldn't be more simple.

Viewers said the hack "works wonderfully" (mamainthekitchen/TikTok)

@Mamainthekitchen shares cooking recipes, including how to recreate your favourite takeout food at home, as well as sharing tips and tricks to help you out around the kitchen.

A video captioned 'Prevent your avocados from browning' has been viewed more than 1.4 million times as it left people "mind blown" that they had never been told before.

Taking the half of the avocado she wants to preserve, she drizzles on a small amount of olive oil and then rubs it all over the surface with her fingertip, as she explains the simple hack "prevents oxidisation".

It went down a hit as one viewer commented to say: "This works wonderfully! Though I usually give them a quick spritz with olive oil spray, keeping it touch-free."

A second wrote: "That's good to know. I've been throwing so many away."

And a third replied: "What?? Omg. THANK YOU. I use avocados just about everyday!"

Others added their own suggestions, with many advising that lemon or lime juice used in the same way can also keep avocados fresher for longer.
