Woman shares genius mint leaf hack for banishing spiders from the house

With spider season now in full swing and likely to last though October, chances are you'll have seen a few (or a lot) of the critters running around your home without having received an invite in.

Luckily help is at hand, as one savvy shopper has revealed how she banished spiders from her house with a simple store cupboard solution - and it couldn't be easier (or cheaper) to make.

Posting the hack on Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK , Sylvia Crawford explained how mixing a small amount of antibacterial spray with some fresh mint had worked wonders when it came to ridding the creepy crawlies from her home.

She said: "Had leftover packet of mint and small amount of cleaner left. Chopped mint and added to anti bac cleaner and filled with water.

Sprayed under window sill outside and around the door. I watched the spiders run as I sprayed. They hate mint right enough. Some people use essential oils but I just thought I would use up what I had."

The spray Sylvia used was Waitrose Essential anti-bacterial action cleaner, which currently costs 77p for a 500ml bottle.

How to keep spiders out of your house

She combined this with a packet of mint from Asda, which currently costs 50p.

Given you probably won't need the entire bottle of antibacterial cleaner - let's say you'd use half - the hack should cost you a total of 88p.

That's an absolute bargain by anyone's standards, and much cheaper than splashing out on peppermint spray - which can cost as much as £7 per bottle.
